Executive Director’s Remarks
Local Corrections: A Devoted Career
The freedoms we all enjoy - and that are often taken for granted - were made possible by the brave men and women who served our country.
On behalf of the American Jail Association, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude and high regard to our veterans for your service to our country as a member of our armed forces and for your service to your local community as a corrections officer.
Enlisting is itself a brave act when you consider all that might lie ahead during your term of duty, and fulfilling your military commitment demonstrates your tenacity and discipline. The freedoms we all enjoy - and that are often taken for granted - were made possible by the brave men and women who served our country.
Veterans Day is an important reminder that we all need to pause and reflect upon the sacrifices that were made by others to secure our freedoms. Their strength and bravery have made our nation strong and revered around the world.
Every year, this issue of American Jails magazine is dedicated to acknowledging and expressing our gratitude for our veterans. It is also an opportunity for you to become more involved with AJA and to support your fellow veterans. We welcome articles about your experiences as a veteran who now works in corrections, as well as articles about programs for veterans at your jails. For more information, please contact Madyson Bracken at madysonb@aja.org.
AJA also has a Veterans' Committee that is charged with supporting veterans. That committee is chaired by Mark Archambeau, CJM and Jim Martin, MPSA, CCHP. Madyson can also put you in touch with them if you are interested in learning more about the committee and potentially serving on the committee.
Again, thank you for your service and thank you for elevating corrections across the nation.
