We need good people from every part of the nation to continue the tradition of dedication and commitment set by current and previous officers and board members. Election time is coming, and the Nominating Committee of the American Jail Association is selecting candidates for the following positions:
Third Vice President
Serves progressively through the Executive Committee chairs to become President in the year 2029. The incumbent will be required to attend three meetings per year. Eligibility for nomination is contingent upon service of at least two years as a member of the Board of Directors.
Please note that the person must hold a CJM, CJS, CJO, or CCT certification prior to being sworn in as President.
Secretary
This person sits as a member of the Executive Committee and maintains meeting records. The incumbent will be required to attend three meetings per year. This is a two-year term.
Eligibility for nomination is contingent upon service of at least two years as a member of the Board of Directors.
Board of Directors (4 Positions)
The Board of Directors is the governing body of the Association. It sets the policy of the Association, establishes the annual business plan and budget of the association, and verifies that the Association is fulfilling its mission. Board members and elected officers will be installed at the 2025 Conference in Fort Worth, Texas, and will attend their first board meeting.
The incumbents will be required to attend three meetings per year.
Elected board member serve for a three-year term.
General Guidelines
- Persons seeking nominations must be individual professional members for at least one full year by October 31, 2024. To seek election on the AJA Board, Agency, Corporate, Affiliate, and Student memberships do not meet the above individual membership requirement.
- Only written nominations and justifications are considered by the Committee, and nominees must be endorsed by a minimum of one member in good standing. Those nominated themselves must be endorsed by a minimum of two members in good standing.
- Individuals nominated for one office can be considered for another office.
- Nominating committee members shall not be considered for office.
- The Committee gives consideration to affirmative action, geography, and agency size so that nominees reflect the diversity of the Association's membership.
- Nominees, if elected are required to attend the following conference events in Fort Worth and other functions:
- Business Meeting & Luncheon
- Board meeting
- New board member orientation
- Awards Banquet
- Fall board meeting
- Participation in monthly conference calls with the Executive Director
- Elections are conducted in accordance with the provisions of Article VIII of the Bylaws
Nominations must be postmarked no later than October 31, 2024. Nominations after that date will not be considered.
